10. The Wrong Missy (2020)
Hopefully my credit doesn’t go out the door with this one. Yes it was a ridiculous movie, but Lauren Lapkus was hilarious in it. She literally made me laugh out loud multiple times. And that’s all I can really ask for in a comedy.
9. Rocketman (2019)
I enjoyed Rocketman. I might have to watch it again though to see if it moves anywhere else on this list. I think a re-watch might do it justice. I really liked the way they made it a musical fantasy, rather than an outright biopic. Egerton was tremendous too. I guess my only gripe is that I read that the portrayal of his father wasn’t all that accurate and I get that it works for the story, but was it necessary to exaggerate it? Then again, who am I to say what their relationship was really like? You kind of don’t know what to believe. The musical numbers were wonderful though, and I was very much looking forward to ‘I’m Still Standing‘ and was very pleased.
8. Palm Springs (2020)
What I liked most about Palm Springs was that it was a different take on the stuck on the same day, Groundhog Day bit. These days, with all the “updated” versions of older movies, I feared this would be an exact replica. But it wasn’t. This felt new, and it was good. It’s not typical Lonely Island funny, but all the while, still fun and funny.
7. Ready Or Not (2019)
Pleasantly surprised at just how much I liked this comedy thriller. This was another take on the children’s game movie (like Tag or Game Night) and it was well worth the watch. Go check it out if you haven’t heard of it! Plus it introduced me to an awesome cover of “Love Me Tender” by Stereo Jane.
6. Richard Jewell (2019)
I don’t really remember much from the ’96 Olympics, and I definitely don’t remember this happening. It is very fascinating though. Super interesting and you almost don’t know which side you believe because they make such a strong case against him and the poor guy does not help himself one bit. I recently saw a preview for a Manhunt: Deadly Games, which will follow this story as a 10-hour mini series that I will for sure check out. Also I’m officially joining the Sam Rockwell Fan Club!
