The thing about Halloween playlists is that they’re really just Halloween-themed songs and we are always stuck with the same 20 or so. There’s nothing particularly wrong with that, but you can only listen to them on loop until you realize two things; 1. You are not Michael Jackson and 2. You wasted hours of your life watching the “Thriller” dance tutorial videos. So in keeping with the spirit of the “holiday” I have added 6 more songs to put on to your Halloween Playlist. Enjoy and Happy Halloween!
Standard Halloween Playlist:
Thriller – Michael Jackson
Monster Mash – Boris Pickett
Ghostbusters – Ray Parker, Jr.
The Purple People Eater – Sheb Wooley
Frankenstein – The Edgar Winter Group
Devil Went Down to Georgia – Charlie Daniels
Werewolves of London – Warren Zevon
I’m Your Boogie Man – KC & the Sunshine Band
I Put A Spell On You – Screamin’ Jay Hawkins
Black Magic Woman – Santana
Theme Song from Halloween
Spooky – Classics IV
(Don’t Fear) The Reaper – Blue Oyster Cult
Witchcraft – Frank Sinatra
Psycho Killer – Talking Heads
The Blob – The Five Blobs
A Nightmare On My Street – DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince
Crazy Train – Ozzy Osbourne
Hungry Like the Wolf – Duran Duran
The Addams Family Theme Song
New Additions:
Zombie – The Cranberries
Angry, head-banging, emotional jam of a song. Nothing like any other Cranberries song that you’re used to hearing on the radio. It has nothing to do with Halloween, but come on, it’s called “Zombie” and that alone warrants it to be on this playlist.
Halloween – Dave Matthews Band
If you are not a big Dave Matthews Band fan, then you probably don’t know this song. And more so, if are about to listen to this for the first time, be prepared to hear DMB like you’ve never heard them before. This song isn’t necessarily about the traditions of Halloween, more than it is about a girl and that’s as much as I know about it. But if you’ve ever thought someone was possessed by demons, look no further then Dave, particularly at the 3:18 mark. Frightening, really.
Dracula’s Lament – Peter Bretter
You know, you could play something else, I just think it IS in context, so why not?
Somebody’s Watching Me – Rockwell
Rockwell is no MJ, and this song is no “Thriller”, but it’ll do. The opening beat sounds like The Twilight Zone theme song and it’s obviously about the constant fear of being watched and followed. Plus, the video doesn’t hurt it’s affiliation with Halloween. It’s actually kinda creepy.
Gangsta’s Paradise – Coolio
I know what you’re thinking, “I love this song, but really, on my Halloween playlist? Are you sure?” Yes, I’m sure. I’ve always associated Gangsta’s Paradise to Halloween, even though it has zero connection. I think it’s because of the almost haunting-like beat and voices of the choir. (Fun fact, the song samples “Pastime Paradise” by who else but Stevie Wonder)
Werewolf Bar Mitzvah – Tracy Jordan
Spooky. Scary. Best Song Ever.
[…] year I gave you such killer additions for your Halloween playlist, that people were just dying for more…. Well, I won’t let you down because, believe it […]
