The Beanpot of Beanpot Jerseys

Boston is a hockey town, but when it comes to college hockey, generally
people stop paying attention to the most recent college hockey standings the day
after they graduate. But the Beanpot continues to capture the attention of all
hockey fans in Boston, and a surprising large number outside of Boston. For a fan
of one of these 4 teams, the result of this four-team tournament can be the next best thing to a national championship.

When it comes to aesthetic, the Beanpot teams have provided some classic
jerseys, and each university can proudly say they have a unique style. In
celebration of four of Boston’s best universities (I know, Cambridge isn’t Boston
blah blah blah…), and of the unique pride the Beanpot gives Boston college hockey
fans, we at Creative Equal have created a tiered Beanpot for each of the
universities, where we have a white jersey bracket, a dark jersey bracket, an
alternate jersey bracket, and women’s jersey bracket.

We’ll take the winners of each, even if a school has multiple winners, and
pit them against other champions in the final bracket.

Admittedly, it’s hard to keep track of some of these teams’ jerseys. We’ve
tried to identify the most recent, and most commonly used uniforms.

The Home Bracket

Semi-Finals

Northeastern vs Boston University

vs.

Northeastern updated to a more stylized look, and got rid of the throwback husky,
which looks dated on a modern jersey. BU is the definition of college hockey in
Boston, and their jerseys are iconic. If this was last year, BU would blow NU’s
jerseys out of the water, but with Northeastern’s cleaner look this year,
Northeastern edges the win. Anytime the classic BU sweater loses out, it’s bound
to be controversial. But this is the Beanpot, where upsets happen.

Boston College vs Harvard

vs.

Harvard’s jersey’s feel more like an elite high school hockey team’s uniforms than
the most prestigious university in the world. BC uses their color scheme nicely,
and the string collar adds some uniqueness. BC progresses to the finals.

Finals (we’re skipping the 3 rd place)

Northeastern vs Boston College

vs.

Again, in years gone by, BC would dominate NU. But this year’s look is strong
and sleek. NU takes the white bracket

The Dark Bracket

Semi-Finals

Boston College vs Boston University

vs.

The gold lettering for BC pops nicely. Again, in a bygone time, BC with their gold
helmets may have taken this. But BU’s two looks are classic and good looking on
the ice. BU to the finals.

Harvard vs Northeastern

vs.

Harvard’s crimson looks much better than their whites. They look like an Ivy
League school here. It feels Harvard. But NU’s new look is much more striking,
the stripes and husky really pop, in a good way. NU to the finals again.

Boston University vs Northeastern

vs.

This is a hard one. NU really elevated their black jersey this year, and it would be a
shame not to recognize it. However, the BU red and white is a sight to see on a
fresh sheet of ice. There is timelessness with BU. Their jerseys will likely not see
substantial change for years to come. NU’s jerseys probably won’t stand the same
test of time. BU are champions of the dark jersey bracket.

The Women’s Bracket

Semi-Finals

Boston College vs Northeastern

vs.

BC women wear the same jersey as the men for the most part, but also come in
flying with a unique gold jersey. NU’s women’s team has some really beautiful
jerseys, and it’s great that the team has their own style. They really do look good,
but that gold jersey with the encircled eagle crest, that’s tasty. BC women
progress.

Boston University vs Harvard

vs.

The BU women are bringing the same classic jerseys the men do. The same with
Harvard, except Harvard has a lovely black jersey with diagonal lettering.
Harvard looks excellent, and easily progresses past BU.

Finals

Boston College vs Harvard

vs.

Two really nice ones here. That crest and the all gold look, can’t be beat here. BC
women take the title.

The Alternate Bracket

Semi-Finals

Northeastern vs Harvard

vs.

The alternate bracket is a warzone. Every single team has a good-looking selection.
NU’s alternate is a throwback to the original glory days of the 80’s. It’s a beauty.
Unfortunately, they ditched the alternate this year. Harvard always seems to be
tinkering with alternates, and their latest two are exception. Harvard heading to
the finals.

Boston College vs Boston University

vs.

BC really makes gold look good. All three of these options are aesthetically miles
ahead of their regulars. With BU, the changes, aside from including “university”
are rather subtle, but create a very different feel. This is a tough one, but somehow,
BU moves on to face Harvard.

Finals

Boston University vs Harvard

vs.

Another real battle that is almost impossible to call. I’m not sure that I’m sure, of
any decision here, but Harvard’s crimson with the black shoulders edges out
BU for the title of best alternate.

The Combo Bracket

Trying to determine the ultimate Beanpot school jersey is like trying to piss in the
corner of a circular room. But here we are, with our final four jerseys of all styles.
We rolled the dice for the semi-final match ups. Let’s see how things play out.

Northeastern (Home) vs Harvard (Alternate)

vs.

As fun and unique as the Crimson’s alternates are, you can’t argue with a crisp
white look of NU. NU to the finals.

Boston University (Road) vs BC Women

vs.

Despite combining all women’s jerseys as a team for the women’s bracket, it is
really the BC women’s alternate that carried them this far. They’re super jerseys
that look great, but the simple “BOSTON” across the front of BU’s sweater
pushes them for a matchup against NU Home jerseys.

The Final

Northeastern (Home) vs BU (Road)

vs.

It was always going to come down to these two, wasn’t it? The iconic BU sweater,
representing decades of success and history. NU coming with a new look and new-
found success. BU dominated the road jersey bracket. NU swept the home jersey
bracket with ease. It’s old vs new. A tradition of dominance and a tradition of
being the underdog. But Boston Week can only have one champion. The Doghouse
can be happy for one more year, because Northeastern’s home whites are the
best jerseys in Boston.

Enjoy Boston Week, everyone. Stay creative.
