It’s no secret that I have lived in Boston my entire life. I love this city, and almost everything it offers (the cost of housing not being one of them). However, I often wonder what local things I might take for granted- like going to a Sox game, to Castle Island, or to the Navy Yard. So many people who have moved to Boston or are from just outside Boston, have never done these things. And sometimes when I hear someone say what they’ve never done, or never been to, it surprises me. But then I ask myself, have I seen the city through the eyes of a tourist? Not really. Turns out, there are several touristy activities that I, a true Bostonian, have never done. And I’m sure some of these will surprise you- hell I was surprised realizing what I haven’t done or seen.
Never Have I Ever…
Been to the Museum of Fine Arts
Crazy, right? I don’t think I’ve ever been to the MFA. Unless I visited when I was a child, where I likely would not have appreciated it, I have no recollection. I’d really like to get there though and maybe it’ll spark a memory of having previously gone on some school trip or with my family.
Been to Boston Public Library’s Copley Branch
*dodges items being thrown at me* I actually only realized this just recently when I walked by and asked myself you’ve never been inside, have you?
Been to the Boston Harbor Islands
Ok so I did go to one of them, I think it might’ve been Long Island, once to deliver some goods to the homeless shelter with my church back in like 2002/3. But I have never been to any other, and some of them have been updated with public trails that would be cool to check out.
Checked out Acorn Street
I KNOW! Even with doing @boston_daily for 10+ years. Am I even from Boston?!?
Ridden the Blue Line
For any of the Boston stops (Bowdoin through Aquarium), if I was heading to that area, I likely would have just taken a closer Red/Green/Orange line stop and walked to wherever I was going. And I’ve never had to take it to the airport, and also never traveled to any of the other stops beyond the airport.
Been to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
I’ve wanted to go here for a few years, but just never really put plans in motion.
Climbed to the top of the Bunker Hill Monument
I’ve lived in Charlestown for almost two years now, so just really no excuse.
Had a drink at the Sam Adams Brewery in Jamaica Plain.
I tried to go when they released their ‘Damage Done’ Double IPA in honor of the 2018 World Series Champions, but the line was hours long and it was wicked packed so I couldn’t even stay for one.
Kayaked (or any activity) on the Charles River
Definitely want to do this sometime though
Been to the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum
I’ve walked by numerous times, I’ve seen the ships and museum, but I’ve never stepped foot inside. This does kinda seem like a lame tourist trap, but I would still like to say I’ve been.
Been to View Boston, formally Top of the Hub
I regret not going to the Top of the Hub before it closed, so can’t miss out on View Boston
Taken the Boston Old Town Trolley Tour
Maybe a little too touristy, but I still would do it.
Attended St. Anthony’s Feast
I blame never having lived in North End, and feeling like an outsider if I did go. I want to though some day
Been to the Institute of Contemporary Art
I don’t know, something about it just being right there in the Seaport, on the water. I wanna go.
